Consumer Award of Excellence
The Independent Living Canada (IL Canada) Consumer Award of Excellence, which was established in 2000, is presented on an annual basis to a person with a disability who:
- Is a member of one of IL Canada's Independent Living Centres;
- Lives the Independent Living Philosophy to the fullest;
- Has overcome the odds in deciding upon and taking a course of action that fulfills a career or personal goal;
- Breaks the mold or stereotype traditionally assigned to a person with a disability;
- Has contributed to the IL movement nationally in some way.
Process for Application
Please complete and forward the attached nomination form to IL Canada's Public Policy / Government Relations Committee, along with a summary/story (600 words) on why you feel this person should receive the award. His/her story should help us to understand this persons unique qualities in the same way that you do. Be sure to include how you feel the person meets the criteria for the award.
- No current staff member of an IL Centre or IL Canada or IL Canada national board member is eligible for award
- An IL Centre/group/individual may submit more than one application
- Please ensure that nominee has been informed and is accepting of nomination
- All applicants will receive a response from IL Canada Public Policy / Government Relations Committee
Nominations due by September 15 annually.
