Introduction:  Independent Living Canada (IL Canada) is a national bilingual umbrella group for Independent Living Resource Centres dedicated to promoting the Independent Living philosophy.  Together, we embrace the principles of being consumer-controlled, cross disability in nature and community based.  Programs at the local level, as well as national initiatives, reflect the inclusion of our diverse populations and promote the full and active participation of people with disabilities in all aspects of their local organizations and society in general. 

Independent Living Canada’s Director of Operations and Programs will work closely with the National Director and provide support and back-up to the National Director for the management of the organizations’ operations and programs. Reporting to the National Director, the incumbent will direct the development, planning, management and the evaluation of the programs and services offered by IL Canada. This position will also be responsible for human resources, establishing individual performance plans and objectives; provide coaching, feedback and evaluating the performance of employees on a regular basis.

The Director of Operations and Programs will possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the capacity to work with a broad range of stakeholders, most importantly, IL Canada’s member IL Centres. We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic team builder with a creative and innovative approach to problem solving, implementing business strategies and delivering results.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in a relevant field or demonstrated equivalent skills and abilities, plus relevant professional development in leadership, HR and management. (S)he will have an extensive track record of program leadership and operations management as well as experience with not-for-profit organizations.  Experience and knowledge of disability issues is crucial along with the ability to speak in both of Canada’s official languages.
